I’m staying put. I live in the city too. Realistically, what are the odds of you setting out on foot and surviving very long?
I bought my house 7 years ago with protection in mind. High windows, easily barricaded doors. I have 3/4 inch plywood and 2x4’s to board up the place with. Also tin foil and duct tape. No light will escape to alert the living or the dead that there is anyone inside. Cheap roller shades to show on the outside so nobody sees the plywood. I have 50lbs of soy wax and wicks to make more candles. Candles provide light and heat. I have a years supply of food, juice, etc tp and baby wipes. 2 mossbergs and a 357. enough ammo. 2 bathtubs to fill with water. A generator that runs on natural gas. yes, it’s loud, but it’s in the garage and only to be used if safe to do so. Unfortunately I’ll have to put down my 2 dogs if it’s a ZA. Reality is, they will bark and need to be let out etc etc. Love them but…….
Rain barrels and a rototiller. Seeds and fertilizer. 6 foot fence around my back yard and with my generator it can and will be hot with 220 if needed.
Don’t under estimate the value of pancake mix LOL. Might not have the ability to bake bread but you can always whip up some pancakes to put your peanut butter or spam on.
Don’t forget entertainment either. Books and board games. You’ll go stir crazy after a matter of weeks.
I choose to hole up in my house. The majority of people will flock together because they’ve been taught “Safety in numbers” Predators follow the herd.
I truly do believe the biggest threat are other people. Live ones. The ones that didn’t plan ahead.
If said crisis lasts for more than 6 months then I’ll make the decision whether I really want to live in a lock down world or not.
